Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Allison Rackow, MSW, LCSW

When my clients walk in the door, I want them to feel my commitment to helping them conquer whatever battles they are currently facing.

“I encourage them to show up exactly as they are–without fear of judgment–and to know that they will have an ally in me.”

My approach is one that is open, honest, engaging and sprinkled with humor. I do my best work with children, teens, or adults that find themselves in the midst of a transition–whether it be helping a child cope with their anxiety,  figuring out how to adjust to a blended family, or guiding an adolescent trying to choose which college to attend.

I pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches (Cognitive-Behavioral, Person-Center, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). I combine these skills with my life experiences. I have always felt called to be a mom–in more ways than just biological. That is why I am also a stepmom, foster mom, and adoptive mom. Having these different experiences and perspectives has allowed me to truly know a variety of family dynamics. This helps me empathize with all parties involved and creatively look for solutions.

My Education and Experience:

I earned a Master’s in Social Work from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. I have worked with many diverse populations in various settings, including as a Child Welfare Specialist supporting youth  and their biological and foster families. I have also worked in pregnancy counseling, adoptions, and with teens in a residential setting. I also have experience with adults of all ages in the community setting as they explore options for aging parents.
