Therapy is meant to provide a safe, calm, and non-judgmental space to examine the barriers that hold us back in life. Every behavior, even our “bad” habits or unhealthy coping skills, is meant to tell us something about how we think and feel. My role as a therapist is to guide, support, and assist clients in exploring these barriers, staying focused on his or her goals, and helping them to develop healthy, adaptive attitudes and behaviors.
My approach to therapy is client-centered, meaning the client is in the driver’s seat to guide the process of their personal growth. I enjoy working with kids, teens, and families. I also enjoy working with trauma survivors of any age, helping them to realize the ways in which their past experiences might impact the present and the future. In my role, I help learn to release the unconscious hold past traumas can have on their thoughts, perceptions, and understanding of the world.
I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is integral to healing – a genuine connection and trust with someone can help heal the deepest wounds and set the stage for future growth. I am passionate about empowering individuals to recognize and channel the strength and resilience that exists within themselves.
I work with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, loneliness, self-esteem, and rebellious or non-compliant behaviors. In our work together, I help my clients identify goals for therapy, build effective coping skills, replace unhealthy and distorted thought processes, identify personal values, and explore the impact of the past on the present and future.
I also have experience in and enjoy treating individuals with sexually problematic behaviors, helping them learn healthy ways to cope with sexual urges, identify the components of consent, develop healthy intimate/non-intimate relationships, and explore the impact of unmet emotional needs.
Before joining Life Insight, I worked in a variety of forensic settings. I recognized my love and passion for working with kids, teens, and families when I worked at a DCFS residential treatment facility helping children and adolescents heal from past traumas. I also have extensive experience working with survivors of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Most recently, I worked within a high school on the south side of Chicago providing trauma-informed mental health services to the student population who have been identified as having a high exposure to trauma and violence.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, having earned my Masters in Arts in Forensic Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I am trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which I have found to be an effective way to address trauma related mental health needs and symptoms. I’ve also been trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as another modality to treat trauma.
When I am not working as a therapist, I love playing with my dogs, watching baking shows, and attempting DIY arts and crafts.
