Emily Hartl, MA, LPC

I am extremely passionate about helping people improve their relationships, including relationships with themselves. Our feelings of self-worth and confidence play a critical role in our day-to-day lives. And oftentimes, at the root of many of our struggles, we find connections to our relationships with self and others.

In our work together, I want the client to be the guide. There are so many situations in our lives where we have no control; in a therapy session, I want you to feel empowered. I truly aim to individualize my work with each of my clients. Whether you are looking for practical tools and skills to use in your day-to-day life, discussion and examination of your life experiences, or a blend of everything, my job is to support you in whatever way necessary. I incorporate interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic, and family-systems approaches.

My Education and Experience:

I work extensively with adolescents and adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, stress management, relationships, life transitions, and self-esteem/body image issues. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Governors State University. During my educational experience, I worked in the domestic violence field with survivors and their children. I have also worked in residential settings with adolescents and adults recovering from eating disorders, trauma, and mood disorders. When I’m not at work, I enjoy quality time with my dog, reading and doing puzzles, being active both in the gym and outdoors, and dancing around my kitchen while listening to Queen and The Rolling Stones.
