Child and Family Counseling

It’s a Big World Out There. Many Kids Need Help Navigating It.

Everything, from school to friends, sports to extracurricular activities, can leave your child feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. This can lead to less than ideal behavior. Kids act out for various reasons. The first step in dealing with meltdowns, defiance, or withdrawal is uncovering what’s bothering your child. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, depression, or big emotions, we are here to help.

At Life Insight, we believe therapy with kids should always be an empowering, positive experience that allows both child and parent to learn new ways to relate to each other and problem solve. We want your children to develop skills that will enable them to be successful. But just as important, we want your children to gain the confidence to use those skills and the self-esteem they’ll need to make good decisions.

Anxiety is the most common emotional challenge in children. Kids may worry about school, friends, germs or even separation from their parents. Some anxious kids are shy and avoid things that other kids enjoy. Some have meltdowns, and others develop complex rituals or repetitious behaviors, designed to diminish the fear.

Depression in children is not unusual. While all kids have their ups and downs, significant or prolonged sadness, lethargy or irritability may indicate depression. Depression is more than than the blues. It can affect all parts of a child’s life including appetite, sleep, friendships, behavior, and academic performance.

Big Emotions in kids are pretty normal, but they can also disrupt the family and create chaos. At Life Insight, we teach kids to manage those big emotions through self-regulation. Self-regulation is being able to manage feelings so they don’t intrude heavily on relationships or day-to-day life.
